Meet the Principal
Hello CSA Families,
Karina Costas -
For the past two decades, I've dedicated myself to the field of education, exploring various avenues until I discovered my true passion: teaching mathematics. Along the way, I earned a master's degree in the subject and honed my skills as a math and science educator, leaving my mark in both college preparatory and public school settings across Puerto Rico and Colorado.
Transitioning into roles that allowed me to expand my impact, I became a STEM instructional coach and CTE math interventionist at Westminster High School. Here, I collaborated with departments to elevate teaching methods and introduce data-driven interventions within a competency-based framework. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of guiding educators in implementing Project-Based Learning (PBL) across disciplines in the Westminster Public Schools system.
Since 2019, I've proudly served the Westminster community as Assistant Principal at WAIS while pursuing my EdD in Mathematics Education. Juggling professional responsibilities and academic pursuits is demanding, but my supportive husband and extraordinary daughter provide constant inspiration and motivation during my moments of respite.
I am excited about joining the Colorado STEM Academy team in what I am sure will be an amazing year! Please know that Carli and I, as well as the entire CSA staff look forward to partnering with you all as we continue to support this incredible community!
Proudly yours,
Karina N. Costas
Carli Yameen -
I am eager to join you as the new Assistant Principal. My passion for education has led me to diverse and rewarding experiences both in the United States and abroad.
During my undergraduate years, I participated in a transformative study abroad program in Spain, achieving fluency in Spanish and certification in teaching English as a second language. I spent over a year studying and teaching in Barcelona, deepening my understanding of cultural diversity.
Back in the U.S., I taught English to refugees and tutored students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. I also coordinated a tutoring program, managing the recruitment, training, and matching of tutors with families in need.
I completed my Masters and teaching license at the University of Colorado Denver and spent three years in Denver Public Schools, working as a bilingual third-grade teacher and a first-grade teacher in a turnaround school. For the past eight years, I've had the pleasure of being here at Colorado STEM Academy in roles including first-grade teacher, interventionist, technology educator, and Dean of Students.
I recently earned my doctoral degree in educational leadership, focusing on LETRS professional development in urban schools. This milestone reflects my commitment to ongoing professional development and positive change within educational communities.
On a personal note, I am a mother and wife with a 3-year-old daughter named Bria. We love visiting the zoo, parks, and exploring new places. My husband and I enjoy concerts and traveling together, having visited many places around the world.
As we embark on this new chapter, Karina and I are dedicated to enhancing STEM’s culture as an exceptional school where every student can thrive.
